Animal Anatomy (Ecorche) Sculpting: Dogs, Cats & Horses - Starts February 26th
|
| What is Ecorche Sculpting?
An Ecorche is a figure drawn or sculpted showing the muscles of the body without skin. Renaissance architect and theorist, Leon Battista Alberti recommended that when painters intend to depict a nude, they should first arrange the muscles and bones, then depict the overlying skin.
Some of the first well known studies of this kind were performed by Leonardo da Vinci. His studies included dissecting the cadaver and creating detailed drawings of the subject. However, there are some accounts of this same practice taking place as far back as ancient Greece, though the specifics are not known. The term Ecorche, meaning literally "flayed", came into usage via the French Academies in the 19th century.
About The Sculpting Class
This class is for beginner and intermediate sculptors. This is a anatomy (Ecorche) sculpture class which consists of sculpting detailed dog, cat or horse anatomy on a twenty inch armature then sculpting muscles, and finally skin. During the class Sculpting Mentor Instructors Gideon Hay & Dallas Harvey will teach students how to use the tools, build an armature, and how to sculpt realistic animal anatomy in detail.
After the Ecorche sculpt is complete students can choose to sculpt and detail their figure into a design of their choosing using reference from comic books, movies, TV, animation, video games, Internet or any other design source.
